“I’ve patched in a short blurb, a testimony of sorts at the end of this email. Short and simple. Somehow it seems I should say more. The impact of the time spent training with you has been huge for me. Every single day my routine reflects things I learned from you. So here’s the testimonial…
I met Ben with two goals: 1. lose body fat 2. learn to strength train. Ben provided expert guidance and support as I worked on these two goals. I learned about nutritional choices for energy, muscle gain and fat loss. I learned to use intervals to improve my cardio workouts. And I learned to strength train, using body weight and free weights, safely and effectively. I have experienced great improvements in energy, strength and body composition. I have new habits for eating and exercise. I have new lifestyle choices that support improved health and well being. The numbers tell it well. Beyond statistics though, is how I look and feel. I am in better shape now than I have been in twenty years and have established healthy routines to maintain this level of fitness. I was a fit fat person when I first met Ben. I am eternally grateful for the work Ben does. It has changed my life for the better. I highly recommend Ben to anyone looking to work towards improved health and fitness. He has the knowledge to guide you.”

What’s the difference? If you train it means your actually training for a specific goal, i.e. weight loss, a sport, to fix dysfunction, etc.. As opposed to working out just for the sake of burning calories. Everyone should train. No one should work out.

I am sick. I mean like sick-sick. I think I have the flu…or possibly I am under a curse. I am not sure which one. But I can say that I absolutely 100% believe that the way I feel right now is directly related to how crappy I ate over the past few weeks. I haven’t worked out in a few weeks and because of that I let my diet slip. I substituted:
All natural peanut butter –> Regular peanut butter (which is loaded with sugar and preservatives)
No bread –> Bread at least once a day (have you ever looked at the nutrition label on most breads?)
No fast food –> Fast food every other day (I read in Men’s Health one time about a nutritionist who brings a McDonald’s hamburger with her to every nutrition lecture she did. She bought the hamburger in the 90’s. No mold, no bugs, still looks exactly the way it did when she bought. She just keeps it refrigerated. Figure that one out)
High quality protein –> Low quality protein or no protein at all
Vitamins and supplements –> Preservatives and additives
Eating every three hours –> Eating three times a day
Eating breakfast every day –> Brunch is the first meal of the day
Looking back on all the things that I changed, my diet profile now looks more like a first time client I would see.
Holy shit! Is this how people feel all the time who eat like that?
I am the sickest that I have been in over 3 years, coincidentally I am also eating the worse. Correlation? I think so.

Driving, talking on my cell phone, txting and answering my emails. It just sucks on Fridays when the people from mass come barreling down the highway going 90 mph. It startles me because all of a sudden they are right on top of me.” This was a conversation I over heard at Panera between a women and a man while I was working on my business plan.
That is really awesome, not like good awesome, but like unbelievable awesome. As in, are you kidding me right now? A car (vehicle) is probably one of the most dangerous things ever invented by man. I say this because if you were to shoot someone there are no physical direct repercussions back on you. However, if you are to get in a car accident, both parties involved stand a very high risk of being injured. Every time you get behind the wheel of your car you are trusting everyone else to be attentive and to give their full attention to driving.
Then this jack ass comes along and tells people how good she is at paying attention to everything but driving. How about if you were in the middle of a transatlantic flight only to look up and see the captain and co-captain out wandering the cabin or sitting down and watching some of the in flight movie? Sounds pretty silly, and yet driving while talking on your cell, txting and checking email isn’t? Then this person explains how the “mass drivers” go too fast and just creep up on them. Holy shit, they creep up on you because you are not paying attention to your surroundings and your too busy with both your hands wrapped around your blackberry driving with your knees to look in your rear view mirrors.
2600 people died last year due to cell phone related car accidents. Is it really that important for you to be checking your email while your drive home?

I used to be so good at bowling, not anymore. On Saturday my girlfriend and I took her son bowling. We didn’t use the big boy lanes we used the lanes that had bumpers on them and the balls were about the size of softball. The pins were the same height as regular pins but they were thinner, the ball relative to the pins was about a quarter of the size, where as, a regular ball and pins, the ball is about half size.
I think the best thing about the game was that it recorded your ball speed as it hit the pins. That’s dumb. Your gonna give me a hard softball, then put tragets up about 50 feet away from challenging me to hit them, then on top of that keep score for me AND tell me how fast I whip the little fireball down the lanes?
Bad idea. I got up to 28.56 mph with out actually turning it into a real softball. You would think those little wooden pins would be easy to hit…they are most certainly not. You have to hit them dead center too, they must be made out of some kind of dense wood. As my speed went up, my accuracy went down. I guess I have to learn how to slow my balls down so I can hit more wood……yup, I just said that. Breathe it in.
Onto the point of this post.
Did you ever wonder why your feet sweat in bowling shoes when they have the holes in the side for ventilation? Or why your feet sweat when your wearing flip flops? Or why in a movie where the heroine is getting chased and she trips and sprains her ankle, she spends the next few minutes screaming as the mad man comes up to her ready to give the death blow when all of a sudden she jumps up and goes Jet Li on their ass? Like spinning jump kicks and roundhouse kicks…and front kicks, cause they are all kicks, no punches to be thrown when you sprain your ankle, just pivoting on one foot while you slam the other into the guy.
What’s up with that? I understand it’s a movie, but seriously.

I heard somewhere that 85% of looking good is feeling good. That got me thinking. How is it that certain people can get away with wearing REEEEEEDICulous outfits, while others can’t even wear an outfit with shoes that don’t match their belt. Is it because that person who is wearing the bright yellow suit is color blind, or is it because he feels good and thus can pull it off?
Do you have aches and pains that prevent you from feeling good? My hips are killing me right now. I tried a body combat class yesterday. Fun class. I can squat 500 lbs, but I can’t throw a kick above my knees.
I gotta say, I am not feeling too good right now, and I know I am not looking good.
Case in point,”Geez, you look tired.” That’s what my CPA told me today.
He has never met me before.
How good do you feel?

Long time lurker, first time poster.
It’s been a long time, bat boys and girls, but I am back. I am going to try and be better about posting on the site. I am not going to promise anything, but I will make an honest attempt to post more. I will be starting a work out section soon so that you can see what I am doing in my work outs. Also stay tuned because there will be a lot of changes taking place over the next several months.
But first, a realization. It has occured to me that what my peers and fellow fitness professionals think of me is irrelevant. I have been overly concerned with what a trainer thinks of me in Idaho or Missouri (not sure why I picked those two states as my example What the hell happens in Idaho?) or any number of states. What collegues think of me has no impact on the amount of money I make. I care what my clients think of me.
Don’t get me wrong! I plan on releasing E-books and online training manuals, but really, those aren’t going to pay the bills. Furthermore, the chance that someone in my local area will find my website and seek me out is pretty small. My current/future clients hear about me from other current/past clients, not because they did a google search for “kick ass trainers in the Hanove, NH area”.
I am pretty kick ass.
